Treatment of the Week – Acupuncture
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a form of Chinese Medicine. In Chinese medicine acupuncture is said to restore energy flows or ‘qi’ of the body. Today we believe that acupuncture can influence pain by the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain relief. The release of these endorphins can influence blood flow, inflammation and help calm the brain.
How do you receive Acupuncture?
Typically, Our specially trained therapists will use a number of tiny needles during a treatment session. The needles are often left in for 10 to 20 minutes. You may feel a slight sting, pinch, ache, or some pain as the acupuncture needle is being inserted.
What can acupuncture treat?
* Anxiety and depression.
* Arthritis and rheumatism.
* Menstrual cramps.
* Skin problems.
* Pain relief in childbirth.
Acupuncture vs Dry Needling
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic and certain points on your body.
Dry Needling also involves the use of very thin needles but the insertion points differ on each person – depending on where their muscle tension is.
